The City of Edinburgh Band is back – see https://www.edinburghbrassband.org.uk/
In it’s hey-day the City of Edinburgh band were one of the top bands in Scotland. After transcribing some of the old reel-to-reel recordings made by Gordon Thomson Senior and Charlie Easton we select the Kenneth Alford March “Old Panama”
Solo Euphonium player James Easton gives us a beautiful rendition of Edward MacDowell’s “To a Wild Rose”
John Hoggans conducts Franz von Suppe’s “Tantalasqualen”
Throughout the transcription of these recordings, made back in the mid 1960s, I have not come across one piece of music that I would not like to play myself.. The band were playing in an Era prior to the introduction of to-days staple diet of popular film and television theme tune arrangements – sorry no “James Bond Theme” or “Mission Impossible” available on this site. Oh! don’t get me started ……
